For information & registration please contact Laurie Lijnders at Amnesty International: l.lijnders@amnesty.nl or Rémy Koolschijn at PBI: indonesia@peacebrigades.nl Following the visit of Matius Murib to the Netherlands, Peace Brigades International and Amnesty International organize a panel discussion about the proposed dialogue between Jakarta and Papua. This planned dialogue between central government and Papua is still in a preparation phase and is aimed at a peaceful and negotiated solution to the Papua conflict. Matius Murib is the deputy head of Komnas HAM Papua, the Indonesian human rights commission that acts as an intermediary party in the Jakarta - Papua dialogue. Previously Matius worked for KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence). Besides Mr. Murib, Dr Nico Schulte Nordholt and Liem Soei Liong will take part in the panel discussion. Dr. Nico Schulte Nordholt is an anthropologist and scholar focussing on Indonesia. Liem Soei Liong has previously worked for TAPOL (an UK based organization campaigning to expose human rights violations in Indonesia, East Timor, West Papua and Aceh) and is well informed about the perspective of the Indonesian government on the Papua Road Map. The pre-dialogue that is taking place involves all parties, including the Papuan diaspora and the international community, and is aiming for a more unified outlook between the central government of Indonesia and Papua towards the future dialogue. This evening will discuss the situation in West Papua, the violations of human rights and the difficulties that are encountered in preparing the dialogue, but will also pay attention to the positive developments. After the panel has set the frame of the present situation there will be enough space for questions and discussion.
