Thank you for signing to stop the unaccountable nature of AFP and the ADF training in Indonesia against First Nations people of West Papua.

Please forward this email to others who may want to sign.

The Australian Federal Police are training Indonesian security forces. In West Papua, this means the police and military have simply become more effective human rights abusers. Military brutality conducted by Indonesian forces is still increasing.

Make West Papua Safe action Cairns April 2019In April in Cairns we heard stories from Uncle George, one of the West Papuans who fled from Biak Island over 30 years ago. Their children still cannot return to their ancestral homes.

The Australian Government trains large numbers of the Indonesian police and military in Australia and in Java. In addition, they regular conduct joint exercises and send equipment. This training has been going on for years but there has never been an independent evaluation into the human rights impact of training, education and equipment paid for with your taxes. Our "foreign aid" money is creating more effective and efficient human rights abusers with zero public accountability. Our police are meant to serve and protect us, not prop up state funded death squads.

We know human rights abuses in West Papua are not improving. As I write this the Indonesian military are conducting military operations in the highlands, creating thousands of refugees. The real purpose of this is to grab land and steal West Papuan resources – for logging and mining. And we know the deforestation and mining will contribute immensely to climate change.

We are creating an active community around this now. Consider organising with us to #MakeWestPapuaSafe. Together we can change this. The New Zealand government’s police training program in West Papua was stopped. We can stop the Australian government’s program of training the Indonesian police in West Papua.
